Equality Duty Statement

Monkseaton High School is committed to the principles set out in our Single Equality Policy. The Single Equality Policy sets out the school approach and commitment to Equality and Diversity. We believe that every individual is important and has the right to be valued, treated with respect and to achieve their full potential. This commitment applies to all members of the school community and beyond: students, staff, governors, visitors and all those we come into contact with. It underpins everything we do and informs our approach to student support systems, teaching, learning and assessment and to our staffing and recruitment policies. In particular, we strive to create an environment which is inclusive and welcoming and which is free from all forms of discrimination. We take positive action wherever we can by promoting the values of inclusivity and mutual respect and by standing firm in the face of discrimination, harassment or bullying.
Senior leaders and governors acknowledge their responsibility for the active promotion of Equality and Diversity, in particular the protected characteristics defined by the Equality Act 2010: age; disability; gender reassignment; pregnancy and maternity; race; religion or belief; sex; sexual orientation.

Our school’s equality objectives are:

• To be inclusive providing equal opportunities for all students to access the curriculum with no barriers to learning.
• To educate all students whatever their belief, race or religion for life in a diverse society and to treat everyone with respect.
• For everyone to examine their own prejudices to prevent any form of unconscious discrimination.
• To make our workforce representative of the schools community
• To increase staff and student knowledge and understanding of equality and diversity issues.
• Work with stakeholders to deliver more effective and equal outcomes for staff and students.
